Fatal Hit-Run Long Island Crash: Drunk Driver Charged, Police Say

A suspect who was allegedly driving drunk has been nabbed in a hit-and-run Long Island crash.

It happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Westbury.

A gray 2006 Chrysler Sebring was traveling eastbound on Old Country Road when it struck a bicyclist near the intersection of State Street. 

The driver of the vehicle, Wilfredo Blanco Molina, age 41, of Hicksville, fled the scene and continued to drive eastbound on Old Country Road, Nassau County Police said.

The adult male bicyclist sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the  scene by a paramedic. 

Officers located Molina a short time later near the intersection of Old Country Road and the Wantagh State Parkway. 

A Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted resulting in positive results and Molina was placed under arrest without incident. 

Further investigation resulted in a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine located on the defendant.

Molina has been charged with:

  • Vehicular manslaughter,
  • Leaving the scene of an incident, 
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance,
  • Driving while intoxicated. 

He will be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 28, at First District Court in Hempstead.
